I just received this and had a good look at it. Normally in a mixed review I'd start with the positive, but one negative is so significant I want to start out with it:DON'T TRUST THE HOOK. First, unlike quality tape measures, the hook does not slide in and out to adjust for its own thickness depending on whether you're measuring from the outside of the hook or from the inside of the hook. Second, it is SIGNIFICANTLY INACCURATE whether your measuring from the inside or the outside of the hook. It's less inaccurate measuring from the inside, where the first inch is really just over 1 and 1/32 inch. Measuring from the outside of the hook, it's about 1 and 1/16 inch.So, *DON'T* *MEASURE* *FROM* *THE* *HOOK*. Instead start your measurement at the 1" mark. If you're measuring centimeters or millimeters, the hook warps the first centimeter so I'd start measuring at the 2 cm mark.Other negs are minor:-- There is no locking mechanism. But that isn't as important for such short measurements.-- The tape is flat, not curved, so it's very droopy. Forget about extending it any length like you do with a quality tape measure. But that's okay due to it's short length.-- When I first pulled it out, it came right out to about 31 and 1/8 inches. But ever since then only to a little over 30". And it starts to feel and sound rough at about 25" and gets more so as you go further, so I'm concerned about damaging it.Positives:-- The case is metal and feels very sturdy. The chain and keyring are also strong metal.-- It's marked with both inches and metric. I haven't found that easy to find on other tape measures; pretty cool that this tiny one has it.-- One side of the case is marked with millimeters and centimeters, about 3.3cm.Someone else here said in another review that theirs didn't retract. Given the rough mechanism, I'm concerned that mine may stop retracting after a while. I'll be back here with an update if it does.
